Stanley F. “Bucky” Bokunewicz Jr, 90, of Shenandoah, passed away on Thursday, January 6th, 2022.
Born February 20th, 1931, Stanley was the son of the late Madeline Bokunewicz (nee Rafter) and Stanley F. Bokunewicz Sr. Shenandoah Heights.
Stanley worked on the Atlantic City Boardwalk in his early teens, he along with his Family moved back to Shenandoah and later on as a teenager he attended High School at West Mahanoy Township (WMT) where he played Basketball and was a member of the Maroons Band playing the French Horn until his graduation in 1948.
Soon after Graduation he was drafted into the US Army, during his time in the Army he moved along with his wife Virginia Bokunewicz (nee Ross) of Lost Creek to Fort Knox in Kentucky where among other things he trained new recruits to drive Sherman tanks. He served his time in the Army stateside and was honorably discharged.
Following his honorable discharge, he and his wife moved back to Shenandoah PA where they started their family and lived there the rest of his life. Besides being an avid hunter and fisherman as well as a ravenous Philadelphia Eagles fan, he was a lifelong member of the Heights Fire Company at one time serving as the sitting president of that organization. As long as he was physically capable, he always helped out the Fire Company, even directing traffic for the fire trucks on the intersection of Schuylkill Ave and Swatara Road well into his 70's.
"Pop" or "Bucky", as he was called by Family or Friends, was also a master of the art of making Polish Kielbasi, he was a veritable legend in the Kielbasi world around Shenandoah, he sold Kielbasi out of two stores at one point, Lexi's in Shenandoah Heights as well as a store of the same name in Levittown, PA. His recipe also more recently won trophies at the Shenandoah Kielbasi Fest 5 times consecutively.
He was preceded in death by brothers Robert, and Ronald as well as a sister Dorothy Gilroy, and Granddaughter Alexis Bokunewicz.
Bucky is survived by his loving wife of 68 years, Virgina as well as his Sister Barbara Bolich of Pleasantville, NJ and one Sister-in-Law, Christine Bokunewicz of Shenandoah. He is also survived by his Daughter Colleen Bokunewicz-Moyer at home, and Steven Bokunewicz, Pittman PA. Grandchildren Keith Aftuk (Husband of Cindy) Frackville, PA, Kyla (Wife of Ted Kaczerski) Gilbertsville, PA as well as Leslie (Wife of Charles Croft) Wesley Chapel, Florida. Great Grandchildren, Amaya & Emma Aftuk, Griffin, Gavin & Grady Kaczerski, Tessa & Tanner Croft and his Goddaughter Deboarah Kline of Dublin, PA. Numerous Nieces and Nephews.
Scripture Services will be held at 10:30AM Friday, January 14th at Oravitz Home for Funerals Inc, 40 North Jardin Street in Shenandoah, PA. Friends may call from 8:30AM until the time of service.
Interment will be in St. Stanislaus Cemetery, Shenandoah Heights directly following the service.
