James L. Cipriani, 82, of Kulpmont, passed away on Tuesday, September 9, 2025, at the Geisinger Medical Center.
James was born on October 10, 1942, in Berwick, Pa.
He graduated from Berwick High School, class of 1960, and from Bloomsburg State College, class of 1965, with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Secondary Education. He also received all the required credits for an M. Ed. Degree from Bloomsburg State College. James retired from the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania on April 19, 2003, with 29 ½ years of service.
He was preceded in death by his father, Peter Cipriani, on April 9, 1945, and his mother, Angeline Cipriani, on January 11, 2004, he also preceded by his brother-in-law, Bernie Varano.
James married his soul mate, Kathleen (Kathy) Varano in St. Casimir’s Church, Kulpmont, on June 24, 1978. He was a member of Holy Angels Parish, Kulpmont, and a former member of St. Joseph’s Parish in Berwick. James enjoyed the outdoors. He was an avid hunter and fisherman. He was a member of the Keystone Fish & Game Association, Irish Valley, and the North American Fishing Club. He was also a member of the Maria Assunta Society in Berwick, and the Rescue Fire Company in Shamokin. James was a kind person who took pleasure in helping and giving to others. He was a simple man with simple tastes who enjoyed the simple pleasures in life. His greatest enjoyment was spending quality time with his son J.P. whom he loved beyond words.
In addition to his wife Kathy, he is survived by his son, James Peter (J.P.) and his wife Tiffany of Gilbertsville, Pa. Other survivors include a brother-in-law, Anthony Varano and his wife Gloria of Kulpmont, a sister-in-law Lena Dillon and her husband Bob of Florida, a cousin Josie Cuba and her husband Ed of Berwick, a niece Tracy Varano Garrison and her husband Shane of Harrisburg, along with several other cousins and dear friends.
A visitation for family and friends will be held on Thursday, September 18th from 9 to 11am at Holy Angels Catholic Church in Kulpmont. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11am. Burial will follow in St. Casimir’s Cemetery, Marion Heights.
