Eva Koch, 102, formerly of W. Coal St., Shenandoah, passed away peacefully, surrounded by her family, on Wednesday January 4th, at her second home, Providence Place Assisted Living Community, Pottsville.
Born in William Penn, November 8, 1920, she was a daughter of the late Stephen and Anna Kravitz Petrock.
She was a member of St. Michael’s Ukrainian Greek Catholic Church, Shenandoah, The Mothers Guild and St. Mary's Society.
Eva enjoyed spending time with her family, and especially lit up when her grandchildren, and great granddaughter, would visit. Eva was affectionately known as Baba, and Great Baba. Eva spread her love through the family with food, always offering meals made with love as soon as you walked into her house. Throughout her life Eva enjoyed hosting holiday parties and traveling on family vacations and trips to the casino. Eva was also a fan of watching Penn State and Philadelphia Eagles Football.
In the past year, Eva moved to Providence Place Retirement Community where she made great friends with residents and staff. She enjoyed taking day trips with her new friends and attending the daily activities, specifically loving painting, concerts, and manicures.
Prior to her retirement she worked as a secretary for F.L. Koch Trucking, the family business. She also enjoyed volunteering her time to her church, including making pierogies for fundraisers.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Fredrick, in 2007; a sister Mary Kovalich; three brothers, Mike, John and Peter Petrock.
She is survived by a daughter, Karen Souchuck with her husband, Glenn, Frackville; her son Fredrick Koch Jr, with his wife, Rosemary, Shenandoah; three grandchildren, Allison Souchuck, Allentown; Glenn Souchuck Jr, Frackville; and Fredrick Koch III with his partner, Ma'rie, Birmingham, AL; and a great granddaughter, Ava Rose Koch, Birmingham, AL; nieces, nephews and cousins.
Funeral services will be held at 9:30 a.m. on Saturday, Jaunary 14th, from the Oravitz Home for Funerals Inc., 40 N. Jardin St., Shenandoah. Divine Liturgy will be celebrated at 10 a.m. on Saturday in St. Michael’s Church, Shenandoah, officiated by Monsignor Myron Grabowsky. Interment will follow in the parish cemetery. Friends may call from 8:30 to 9:30 a.m. on Saturday morning at the funeral home.
