Dorothy Mattes

Dorothy Dolores Mattes, 92, Ringtown, passed away Friday, December 6, 2024, at her home surrounded by the loving arms of her family.  

Dorothy, born February 6, 1932, in Shenandoah, was the daughter of the late Julius and Elsie (Dombrowski) Barowski. She was a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and great grandmother. 

She enjoyed spending time with her family, visiting with her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. She especially enjoyed playing games and watching all the sporting events of her children and grandchildren.

Dorothy is preceded in death by her parents; husband, Joseph Anthony Mattes; 2 brothers, Edward, and Robert Barowski; sister Joan Perrong; 2 grandchildren, Kevin Davis and Kimberly Dennison; and great grandchild Reese Annette Bowman.

Dorothy is lovingly remembered and survived by her children, Dorothy Ann Redmond, Janet Dennison and husband Robert, Bridget Bowman and husband John, Joe Mattes and wife Marci, and Ron Mattes and wife Susan; 19 grandchildren, Jeffery and Steven Davis, Jason, Justin, Jeremy, and John Jr. Bowman, Robert Dennison, Dominique Tennant, Ashley DiCarlo, Monica Donnelly, Sheila Carlberg, Kelly Tarasovitch, Molly Mayhoff, Laura Humphries, Nicole, RJ, and Amber Mattes; and 33 great-grandchildren.

Visitation will take place on Monday, December 9th from 5 to 8pm at the Oravitz Home for Funerals Inc, 40 N. Jardin St, Shenandoah.  Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Tuesday, December 10th at 10:30am in St. Mary’s Roman Catholic Church, Ringtown and will be officiated by Fr. Dominic Pham.  Burial will follow in the Sacred Heart Cemetery, Weston. 

In lieu of flowers memorial donations in Dorothy's memory may be made to either: St. Mary's Parish, Ringtown or the Ringtown Area Library.
