Charles Nahas Obituary

Charles (Charlie) Joseph Nahas, Hazleton PA passed away on January 19, 2025, at the age of 89.

Born in Shenandoah PA to the late Philomena and Fred Nahas and Stepfather Simon Walitis.

Charles was a 1953 graduate of Shenandoah Catholic High School.

After high school he enlisted in the US Army, where he served in Germany. It was there that he would meet his lifelong friends.

After returning home he met and married Sophie (Starzetsky). Together they would celebrate 52 years together until her death in 2011.  They made their home in Bristol PA after he accepted a position working for Rohm and Haas Co.

While employed there he attended Drexel University earning a degree in engineering. He continued his career at Rohm and Haas until his retirement in 1994.

Charlie was an avid hunter, who enjoyed spending time outdoors with his good friends and fellow members of his hunting club. He enjoyed tinkering with all sorts of things, there was nothing he could not take apart and fix.

To Charlie family was everything. After retirement they would make their way back up state (Hazleton area) to help take care of aging family members. In his later years he became a code enforcement officer for North Union Township. A position he held until his passing.

Charlie was always up for a trip to the casino, especially with his daughters in tow.  He also enjoyed cooking for his family and organizing all class reunions for Shenandoah Catholic High School.

Charlie is survived by his childhood friend and loving wife of 10 years Mary (DeFilipps, Currie). Charlie was the loving father to John Nahas (Mary), Sandra Gorewich (Scott), Barbara Perugini (Jim), Diane Dineen (JD), Karen Stubbs (Skip) and Betsy Hartman (Andrew). He deeply adored spending time with his grandchildren Veronica, Daniel, Michael, Nicholas, Eric, Rachel, Chelsea, Devon, Christopher, Jack and his great grandchildren Rory, Wren, Caleb, Gavin, Lillian, Arabella, Danica and Alexia.

He was preceded in death by his brother John Nahas (Renee). He will be deeply missed by his cousin John Sion {Delores} and lifelong friend Bucky Lavis.
