Bernadine Malinoski (98 years old) died Thursday (28 August 2025) at the Horsham Center for Jewish Life in Horsham, PA.
Born in Shenandoah on 16 August 1927, she was a daughter of the late John and Frances (Stabinski) Malinoski.
She was a 1944 graduate from J. W. Cooper High School, and a 1948 graduate of Thomas Jefferson School of Nursing, Philadelphia, PA. She received a Bachelor’s of Science in Nursing from Boston College and a doctorate in Public Health Nursing from the University of North Carolina in Chapel Hill.
She served her country as a military nurse. She was an Army-Air Corps flight nurse during World War II and transferred to the Air Force during the Korean War. In 1980, she retired from the Air Force as a Lieutenant Colonel. During her tenure, she served as the 69th Aeromedical Evacuation Squadron Associate. She was awarded the U.S. Air Force Commendation Medal for meritorious service in the Air Force Reserve.
She was a member of the Thomas Jefferson Alumni Association and the American Public Health Association. She was the Director of Education and Nursing Servicesin Philadelphia, PA and was part of the public health organization in Maryland.
She taught Public Health Nursing at the University of Michigan and Penn State University. She was also recognized for her many publications she wrote concerning her profession.
She was a member of St. Casimir Roman Catholic Church, Shenandoah.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by brothers, Jack Malinoski, Francis Malinoski and Anthony Malinoski; and sisters Victoria Malinoski, Joan Malinoski, and Grace Mazurkiewicz.
Surviving are sister-in-law Roseanne Malinoski; niece Lynn Malinoski Conlin, her husband Ken and their children Joseph and Brooke; nephews John Malinoski, his wife Laura and their children Zack and Olivia, Gary Malinoski and his wife Krista and their children Julia and Adam, Michael Malinoski and his wife Nicole and their children Ellie and Jed. Also, niece Karen Mazurkiewicz and her family, and nephew Robert Mazurkiewicz and his family.
A visitation for family and friends will be held on Wednesday, September 3rd from 9:30 to 10:30am at the Oravitz Home for Funerals Inc., Shenandoah. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00am at Divine Mercy Parish – Sacred Worship Site- St. Casimir’s and will be officiated by Msgr. Ronald Bocian. Interment will follow at St. Casimir’s Cemetery in Shenandoah Heights.
