Alfred R. Bright, 83, of 100 S. Main St, Shenandoah and currently the Shenandoah Senior Living Community, passed away on Monday, September 12, 2022 at Lehigh Valley – Schuylkill East, Pottsville.
Born in Shenandoah, he was the son of the late Alfred and Florence (Wowak) Bright.
He was a 1957 graduate of the former J.W. Cooper High School in Shenandoah. He was a veteran of the United States Army. Al worked in the family plumbing business with his father and would later work for Catholic Housing. He was a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church, Shenandoah. Al was a lifetime member of the Columbia Hose Fire Company in Shenandoah and was a former Shenandoah Fire Chief. He was also very active in the Schuylkill County Fireman’s Historical Society. Al was a Past Master of the former Shenandoah Masonic Lodge #511 and currently a member of the Pulaski Masonic Lodge #216 of Pottsville.
Al loved antique cars and trucks along with stock cars and go-carts that he raced at various tracks. He was a member of the Independent Order of Odd Fellows, and he loved Polka dancing.
In addition to his parents, preceding him was his wife Catherine (Cuff) Bright in 2014, a brother, John Henry Bright in 2020, and a sister, Florence “Cookie” Bright at age 17.
Surviving include a sister-in-law – Barbara Bright, nieces and nephews and his caregiver.
A visitation for family and friends will be held on Tuesday, September 20th from 9 to 11am at the Oravitz Home for Funerals Inc, 40 N. Jardin St, Shenandoah. Masonic services will be conducted at 10am and Scripture services will be conducted at 10:45am by Pastor Mindy Heppe.
Burial with full military honors will be held on Thursday, September 22nd at 10:30am in Fort Indiantown Gap National Cemetery, Annville, Pa. Those wishing to attend the burial, a procession will depart from the funeral home on Thursday morning at 9am.
