Matilda R. (Robel) Flaim

Matilda R. Flaim (Robel), 96, formerly of Sheppton, Pa, passed away on Saturday, November 9th in Hazleton at the home of her granddaughter surrounded by her loving family.

Born in Bethlehem, Pa on May 30th, 1923 she was the daughter of the late Stephen and Anna “Kanish” Robel.  She was a lifelong member of St. Joseph’s Parish in Sheppton and she prayed her Rosary daily.  Matilda and her late husband, Ernest “Ernie” Flaim, who preceded her in 2000, were owner/operators of the former Flaim’s Restaurant in Sheppton for over 30 years.

Besides her husband and parents, Matilda was preceded in death by 3 brothers, Joseph, Stephen and Daniel Robel and 2 sisters, Mary Spagnolleti and Catherine Lorenz.

Surviving are her son, Dennis Flaim with his wife Laurel of Orangeville, PA, 2 sisters, Theresa Walters of Hudsondale, Pa and Dorothy Meister of South Carolina.  2 granddaughters, Kelly Barletta with Justin of Hazleton and Deana Greco with Vito of Hazleton who was also her caregiver.  5 great granddaughters, Jenna Greco, Janell Davies with Chris, Jillian Greco, Giada Barletta, and Elyse Barletta.  1 great great grandson, Chase Davies and another expected great great grandchild.  Nieces and nephews also survive along with her 2 companions, Lyla and Soxy.

Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Tuesday, November 12th at 10:30am in St. Joseph’s Parish, 14 E. Oak St, Sheppton with Fr. Dominic Pham officiating.  Burial will follow in St. Joseph’s Parish Cemetery, Sheppton.  A visitation for family and friends will take place in St. Joseph’s Parish prior to mass on Tuesday morning from 9:30 to 10:30am.
